Harvest: Le Pouldu by Paul Gauguin, 1890, exhibited at the National Galleryย – This summer landscape was painted by Gauguin during his stay in Brittany, while he was moving away from his initial impressionist style and embracing a more primitivist art, influenced by folk art, to be developed further during his later life in Tahiti.
This self-portrait was painted by Gauguin ย in 1896, when he had been already been living for some time in Tahiti and had taken some steps in a very unique artistic direction, inspired by local traditions in French Polynesia and quite diverging from his impressionistic beginnings in France.
