๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Impressionism is associated in our mind with Paris and French painters but in reality the artistic movement at the end of the XIX century involves also painters of various nationalities who came into contact with the main impressionists in Paris. Giuseppe De Nittis, originally from Barletta in Italy, is one of these non-French artists recognised to be part of the main impressionist movement. Originally in contact with the macchiaioli painters in Italy, De Nittis moved to Paris in 1867 where he gained some success with genre paintings commissioned by art dealer Adolphe Goupil. In 1875 he moved to London where this painting, Westminster Bridge, was produced, along with other artworks inspired by cityscapes. Below is a YouTube video featuring some of his artworks now exhibited at a museum in his native city of Barletta, the Pinacoteca De Nittis.

      1. Same to you ๐Ÿ™‚
Your posts are really great, always. I love reading them! Also, I wanted to ask you, what is your favourite food? Italy is so famous for food! And I love it’s culture so much ๐Ÿ™‚

      2. When it come to my own cooking I’m almost always inspired by Italian cuisine or flavours I enjoyed in my travelling. When I eat out I always prefer local cuisine and experimenting. As a general rule I follow the stereotype Italians are quite fussy about food and enjoy eating the proper way and appreciate efforts in preparing good dishes!

      3. As you can see from my blog I have different interests, from food to visual art and literature and so on. If I really had to choose I would probably go for music as I cannot spend a day without listening to something I like. And music language is universal, independently from where it is made. What is your favourite music?

      4. Ah, I see. Your blog is certainly a very colourful and diverse place. Music seems healing and magical to me as well. I love every music, but mostly calm and soothing ones. I like traditional, folk songs, and anime songs. ๐Ÿ™‚ What about you?

      5. I enjoy all kinds of music, depending on my mood. If you like soothing music I should definitely recommend you Ludovico Einaudi, featured in one of my recent posts, as I went to see him in live concert recently. Do let me know if you like his music. You can find it easily on YouTube.

      6. I just checked him in YouTube!
As I am writing to you, I am listening to Nuvole Bianche by him, and it’s really beautiful! So calm… and soothing! Thank you so much for introducing me to this jewel. ๐Ÿ™‚

      7. Far too many: I love an Italian singer who is undoubtedly the top Italian diva, her name is Mina and she also recorded in English. My favourite classical composer is Chopin because his piano music is so unique and passionate.
