Photography

Sakura in St Jamesโ€™s Park, London

Photography is one of my recent passions, discovered and developed since I started using my mobile phone camera, but I do not consider myself a photographer, by any stretch of imagination. One of my favourite subjects for photography is nature, in all its possible expressions, particularly landscapes, seascapes, sunsets and plants. There is something magical about capturing an image and crystallising a distinct moment in the ever changing process of natural life that will never be repeated the same again because of different lighting, colours, season or emotion.

One of the subjects that always caught my attention as a novice photographer has always been architecture of old buildings, in general, and churches in particular. The architecture of the churches, especially the Gothic ones, is of great appeal to those who attend them with regard to the relationship with the divine and supernatural dimension. The great vaults that lift us to the sky and the stained glass windows that magically reflect the rays of the sun inside the temples are visual stimuli for a spiritual experience even simply in the perception of the human eye. The reproduction of these mystical sensations even with photographic images is one of my sources of inspiration when I am away from home in search of new photos.

In my photographs there are very rarely people so photos with inanimate objects or still life are certainly among my favorite photographic subjects. The food I prepare or eat in a restaurant is certainly a popular subject on my Instagram profile too. Perhaps there is not a great artistic research in photographing what is served to us on a plate but, somehow, it reflects and makes less fleeting of the everyday and banal pleasures to which we normally pay attention only for a few minutes, before swallowing what we we are served. Most of the time the chef in the kitchen has applied time and skills to present us a dish that deserves some more attention than the few moments before satisfying our appetite.
